Dynamic weighing solutions
What if you could weigh every item on your production line or transport belt accurately at high speed and without ever stopping the flow?
Dynamic weighing represents a major advancement in industrial measurement technology, addressing the limitations of traditional static weighing methods. This advanced approach allows for real-time, reliable weight data collection as products move across belts, conveyors, rails, or within moving manufacturing equipment such as mixers, tumblers and bioreactors.
Dynamic weighing is a versatile technology with applications spanning food production, biologics, agriculture, logistics, sorting systems, and quality control – virtually any industry or production process where accuracy and efficiency are critical. By integrating advanced load cells and intelligent data processing, dynamic weighing systems enable continuous operation, maintaining accuracy even at high speeds.
These solutions not only boost operational efficiency and throughput but also support stringent quality control, regulatory compliance, and error reduction. Ultimately, dynamic weighing empowers companies to streamline their processes, minimize downtime, and achieve exceptional accuracy and traceability – all while keeping production lines running smoothly.

What influences dynamic weighing?
Static scales require stopping products on the line for each measurement, which is both time-consuming and disruptive to workflow. As a result, static weighing is often far too slow for most modern manufacturing environments.
In contrast, dynamic weighers measure the weight of items as they move across a surface, taking multiple readings and averaging the results. The more measurements that are taken, the more data points are available—leading to greater accuracy and a closer approximation of the product’s actual weight.
Eilersen digital capacitive load cells can weigh at 500Hz, meaning you get up to 500 data points per second for each item. This high-speed data acquisition enables exceptionally reliable measurements—even at high production speeds.
Dynamic weighing is essential for modern manufacturing and packaging lines, but achieving high accuracy at high speeds is a complex technical challenge that only a few load cell manufacturers have mastered. Dynamic weighing systems must balance three interdependent factors: production throughput, product center distance, and standard deviation. Adjusting any one of these factors affects the others.
Dynamic weighing systems are sensitive to their surroundings, and several environmental factors can interfere with measurements. Temperature fluctuations, airflow, vibrations, and electrical interference are all common influences that can degrade the quality of the measurement data.
Product size and shape are also critical factors to consider in dynamic weighing. Non-uniform product sizes and shapes can interact unpredictably with the weighing surface, potentially leading to inaccurate results. Similarly, product overlap on a belt or conveyor can create critical errors, as a load cell may attempt to weigh more than one item at a time.
Dynamic weighing within equipment—such as bioreactors with agitators, high-shear mixers, or tumblers—faces similar challenges. Vibrations and mechanical noise can distort load cell readings. The constant movement creates dynamic forces and may result in an uneven load distribution between load cells, further complicating accurate measurement.

Application example: Agristo
Agristo is a global player in producing and developing high-quality potato products. With more than 1500 employees, 950.000 tons annual production, and their product available in 145 countries, Agristo is the largest exporter of frozen fries in the world.
Agristo used to have frequent downtime and maintenance due to sensitive load cells that couldn't handle the harsh conditions with welding, grease and oil. The transition to Eilersen load cells significantly improved Agristo's operations. Despite initially working with older fieldbus interfaces, the integration with digital interface was smooth. The digital nature of the Eilersen load cells also meant accurate measurements with no offset, even in the most challenging conditions.
Thierry Vanmarcke, Automation Manager at Agristo, highlights the durability of the load cells, “The robustness and ease of use of Eilersen load cells have streamlined our production processes. If we need help, Eilersen is always easy to reach. I can’t remember when we had a serious problem with our weighing systems; they just work. That’s why we only rely on Eilersen, exclusively in the automation department.”

Agristo's Solution
Agristo uses Eilersen load cells type BL for precise and durable inline weighing of potatoes.
The hygienic (aseptic) beam load cell types BL and BL-Ex are hermetically sealed and produced in electropolished steel and EHEDG compliant design. They can tolerate overloads of up to 500% of the rated capacity, and sideloads up to 200%, making exceptionally durable, and ideal for applications that require sturdiness and precision.
They can be supplied with mounting kits that are to install or retrofit, and can be used in ATEX (Ex) and IECEx applications (Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22).
Eilersen beam load cells are ideally suited for process weighing applications and are widely utilized in logistics and food and pharmaceutical production. What sets Eilersen beam load cells apart is their durability and the ability to change the load cell cable without having to replace or recalibrate the load cell itself, ensuring maximum uptime.
Beam load cells from Eilersen are available in ranges from capacity (Emax) 10 kg, to 700 kg, with an accuracy down to 0.025% and overload tolerance up to 500% of rated capacity.
